It seems contrary to everything that had been done—within the framework of UN nations—and everything that had been negotiated and agreed upon regarding climate change.” But the reality is that since 1987 , when the UN Brundtland Commission's report on “Our Common Future,” which seeks to balance economic growth with environmental protection and social well-being, was adopted , little progress has been made. The ideological and globalizing bias has focused on energy . Efforts have been dedicated first to environmental pollution, then to climate change, and finally to a sustainable energy transition through the actions of the COPs (Conference of the Parties, also of the UN), both COP 21 in Paris and COP 26 in Glasgow, aiming to eliminate the consumption of fossil fuels.

After costly meetings at the UN involving trillions of dollars, the International Energy Agency (IEA) of the OECD and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have announced that the emissions reduction target adopted by COP 21 in Paris in 2015 will not be met and cannot be met by 2030; and that the goal of net-zero CO2 emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels will not or cannot be met either .

The long-term scenario – from the IEA and OPEC – of the energy consumption mix of this planet, shows that by the year 2050 , the world will need an additional 120 million barrels of oil per day compared to the 100 million barrels per day of this year 2025.

"The world's dependence on oil for energy will remain high at 72%."

The world, and the United States in particular—as the largest producer and consumer of energy—has undergone a significant change of president since January 2025 , bringing with it a shift in almost all policies within the framework of the "MAGA" (Make America Great Again) political thesis. In this context, President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change and all its implications effectively puts the entire decision-making process " on hold," particularly regarding greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and Net Zero CO2 emissions, aimed at decarbonizing the planet. Criticism has also been leveled at the "globalization processes" of the UN's 2030 Agenda. Both of these decisions are linked to a commitment by the US and all nations to eliminate fossil fuels from the global energy mix. But the US disagrees with the UN, which considers CO2 from burning fossil fuels to be a pollutant responsible for global warming, environmental pollution, and other problems. However, it is premature to delve deeper into the details of the impact that the US withdrawal from the Global Compact would have on the world, given its status as the world's leading scientific, technological, economic, and military power.

In any case, renewable energies , particularly photovoltaic and wind power for electricity generation and geared towards the land transport electricity market and for residential and industrial consumption, also seem to have entered "pause mode" , while issues such as "energy minerals" are clarified.
